Bilingual Education About in 1994, the use of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) in Italian Schools had more development in the Italian Bilingual Regions (language immersion): Piemonte, Valle d’Aosta, Lombardia, Trentino, Veneto, on the border with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

Since 2010, the Italian School Reform introduced in the High Secondary School (14/18 years) the teaching of a subject (History, Geography, Science, …) in foreign language according to the methodology CLIL. Teachers’ Training Courses have therefore been started for the acquisition of skills on CLIL methodology and the acquisition of language skills up to the C1 (CEFR), especially in English. In Primary (8/11 years) and Lower Secondary School (11/13 years) the teaching in English of a subject (History, Geography, Science, …), according to the methodology CLIL, is at the beginning stage and it’s esperimental. This is due to several reasons: Teachers of the older generation, who have high skills in English, are only English Specialist Teachers. Only recently have been introduced high English language courses in University Programs, which are not only of Foreign Linguistics. There are still few trained teachers for CLIL. Bilingual Education

Bilingual Education in Our School Primary School (8/11 years): only Foreign Language is English: listening, reading and understanding simple phrases, copying correctly, writing short phrases, following a given model. Lower Secondary School (11/13 years): First Foreign Language is English: reaching the level of the European Language Portfolio A2 through the integration of various skills: listening, reading, speaking, writing, oral interaction and written interaction. Second Foreign Language is Spanish: Listening and understanding comprehensively the spoken and written language. Expressing appropriately in speaking and writing interaction. No subject uses CLIL: we are planning strategies for the use of CLIL, through European funding or families’ private contribution, to have mother tongue speakers as assistants in several lessons.
