2. Multiplying a Fraction by a Whole Numbers
In order to multiply a fraction, both factors must be in the form of fractions
To convert a whole number into a fraction, place it over 1, then we can multiply the fractions together 8 9 8 9 5 1
8 x 5
9 x 1 40 9 x 5 x = = = 4
R 4 4 9

3. Multiplying a Mixed Number by a Whole Number
In order to multiply a fraction, both factors must be in the form of fractions
To convert a mixed number into a fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction, then add the product to the numerator 4 5 9 5 6 1

5 x 1 54 5 1 x 6 x = = = 10

4. Multiplying Mixed Numbers
In order to multiply a fraction, both factors must be in the form of fractions

Ensure all factors are fractions, before you multiply them together
To convert a whole number to a fractions, place it over 1.
To convert a mixed number to a fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction, then add the product to the numerator
Reduce the product to lowest terms
