4 Primary Education Singapore 197 primary schools in Singapore. Giving students a good command of English, the mother tongue and Mathematics. students sit for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in order to pick secondary school.

5 Secondary Education 147 secondary schools in Singapore. attending four or five years of secondary education under the Special, Express or Normal Course. There are 2 different levels of examination in the forth & fifth years respectively. Singapore

6 Junior Colleges and Pre- Universities  14 Junior Colleges and 2 Pre- Universities.  At the end of the pre- university course, students sit for the GCE 'A' Level examination. Singapore

7 Kindergarten (Pre-primary Services) Hong Kong Provision of education and care to children before 6 years old. Provide children with a relaxing and pleasurable learning environment.

8 Primary & Secondary education 9 years' free education to all children, enhance biliterate and trilingual abilities in language; improve learning and teaching environment; help newly arrived children integrate into local school, Hong Kong

9 Special Education  Provide children having special needs with education to help them develop their potential in the community. In the 2003/04 school year, there are 785 primary schools, 501 secondary schools and 62 special schools. Hong Kong

11 Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Established to provide excellent post- secondary technical education. Graduates are equipped with the technical knowledge and skills ITE is also the national authority for the certification of skills. Singapore

12 Special Education Program Because they want to tap the talent of students, Singapore organizes a special education program, such as, special music education program, art design education program, and special language education program. Singapore

16 Tuition Fee Different kind of course, grade and school has different tuition fee. Beside tuition fee, some school will collect other fee (such as fee of student union, P.E. facilities, etc). That’s like HK. Singapore

17 Grant-in-aid  Singapore government provides subsidize education expenses for foreign students.  When those foreign students finished the study courses, he/she needs to work for three years in Singapore. Singapore

18 Academic Languages Singapore: English for most of the subjects Hong Kong: using mother-tongue ~ Chinese, instead of using English, but some schools are still using English teaching.

19 Academic Year Each academic year divided into 4 terms, each hold for 10 weeks. Academic years begin on 2nd January and end at the middle- November. There are 12 weeks of school holidays each year, excluded public holidays. Singapore  Academic years begin on 1st September and end at the mid- July.  The total number of school days should not be less than :  190 days for whole-day schools.  209 days for bisessional primary schools.  190 days for junior secondary. Hong Kong

20 Accommodation Students can choose staying in a students hostel or boarding school. International students may join the plan of host family. It is a efficient way for foreign students to join the life in Singapore directly. Singapore
