DOCUMENT #:GSC15-PLEN-56 FOR:Presentation SOURCE:TTA AGENDA ITEM:Smart Grid CONTACT(S):Hyungsoo Kim Smart Grid Standard activities in Korea Hyungsoo KIM, Director, KT corp. Global Standards Collaboration (GSC) GSC-15

Smart Grid Standard-related organizations in Korea  Standardization Committee for Smart Grid under KATS (Korean Agency for Technology and Standards)  Smart Grid Standard Forum under KSGA (Korea Smart Grid Association)  SG ICT Convergence Forum under KSGA supported by TTA  WG 2142 (SG Working Group) under Digital Home PG, TTA 2

Smart Grid Standard Forum  Focuses on Electricity-related Standard (ex, IEC) 1 st step (’10~’11) : Implementation priority-based 2 nd step (’12~’13) : Advanced Power Grid 3 rd step (’14~ ) : Integrated Operation and Management 3 SG Standard Forum Steering Committee Bureau (KSGA) Policy Smart Place Working Groups S-Transportation S-RenewableS-Power Grid S-Electricity Service

TTA SG ICT Convergence Forum  Focuses on Standardization for ICT aspects of Smart Grid (ex, ITU, JTC1, etc.) ITU-T FG on Smart Grid will concentrate on ICT standard for Smart Grid (’10.06.) 4 Steering Committee Bureau (KSGA) PolicyTechnologyService

Strategic Direction  Smart Grid is Convergence with Power & ICT Network convergence, Service convergence and Terminal convergence  To support Interoperability and Security requirements, highly secured and QoS guaranteed IP-based telecommunications network should be taken into account for delivery of data Home Network could be reused for Home Area Network Not only Electricity but also Gas, Water, Heating, etc. 5

Challenges  ICT systems in Power Industry vs. ICT systems of ICT Industry Purpose, Capability, Openness, etc.  Too many standards vs. Absent standard SDOs : ITU, IEC, JTC1, IEEE, ETSI, ANSI, … Areas : Information, Telecommunications, Electricity, … 6

Next Steps/Actions  Harmonization and Collaboration to select & develop the appropriate standards among; Markets, Industries, Organizations, … 7
