2 protest- to say or to show that you do not like something boycott- to refuse to buy things from a company until conditions are changed fasting- a peaceful way to protest by not eating food strike- when a group of workers stop working until conditions are changed migrant worker- people who move around the country harvesting seasonal crops union- a group of workers who join together to seek fair treatment and better pay

3 Believed farm workers should have better pay, treatment, and housing Created the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) He dedicated his life to fighting for migrant farm workers rights

4 Protest (ex. Chavez led a march from Delano to Sacramento, California to bring attention to the demands of farm workers.) Boycott (ex. Chavez convinced other states and countries to stop buying crops until farmers received better treatment.) Strike (ex. Farmers stopped harvesting crops until they received better treatment.) Fasting (ex. Chavez fasted for 36 days to bring attention to health hazards farm workers are exposed to by coming in contact with pesticides.)

5 A State Holiday Chavez’s birthday is an official state holiday in eight states. California is one of them. Cesar Chavez Day promotes service to the community in honor of Chavez's life and work.
