A School Nutrition Action Group is a school-based team consisting of teaching staff, pupils and caterers who work together to review and improve the school food service and promote healthy eating across the school. We have worked hard over the last year to identify areas for development and promote the importance of healthy eating and nutrition around school. We have: Conducted lunchbox surveys and analysed our findings in order to form an action plan Promoted the importance of healthy snacking during break times Provided children with healthier options when deciding on lunchbox choices Updated the school website with the outcomes of our meetings Designed SNAG logos that are identifiable around school. What is SNAG?

What do you think a healthy plate looks like? Use the colour codes to divide your plate up into portions… Protein – meat, fish, eggs Fruit and vegetables Carbohydrates – bread, rice, pasta Milk and dairy Foods high in sugar and fat
7
Healthy Snacking From our lunchbox surveys we found that over 50% children did not have a healthy snack to eat during break times. There are lots of exciting snacks that are much healthier options !
9
What does a healthy lunch box look like?
10
The results from our lunch box surveys showed that over 75% of children had healthy options in their lunchbox for example pieces of fruit, vegetables, wraps and pasta salads. However, 60% of children did have unhealthy snacks on top of this. It is fine to have a chocolate bar every now and then but what we would like to see is a higher percentage of healthy options than unhealthy in the lunchboxes of children at Glynoced. Using the food on your table we would like to put together a healthy lunch, think about your decisions carefully as we will be discussing them after! The sneaky S’s – sugar and salt! How much is too much? On your table there is a bag of sugar and a bag of salt – using the teaspoons and the cups provided measure out how much salt you think a child aged 7-11 should have per day…
12
How much is too much? But what about sugar?
13
You could make some sugar swaps
14
One last task… We would like you to design a slogan for the SNAG that will be identifiable around school along with our logo. It needs to be catchy and memorable!
