1. Map Skills 5 ‘Grid References’  To understand what a grid reference is and how they help us find places on a map. 1. Explain the term ‘Grid square’.

2. Grid References  Maps can be very complicated, hence it may be very hard to find something or somewhere on it!  To make it easier to find places, grid lines can be drawn on the map, these grid lines form grid squares.  If each of these lines are numbered the exact position of a square can be given.  When you place the numbers next to one another they form a four figure grid reference which give the position of a square.
