Sociolinguistics is the study of the relationship between language and society. Questions sociolinguistics answers: Why don’t we speak the same to our boss at work as our friends, or speak to strangers as our family? Do women and men speak the same with each other? Why do people the same age or from the same social class or same ethnicity use similar language?
