4 What have we offered for September 2013 in school? EPQ: Extended Project Qualification e.g. run a fashion show Use of the school fitness suit: Mr Hetherington / Mr Hale Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA and HSLA): Mrs Mallinder Learning a new language: Italian: Mr Brownlie / Chinese: Mrs Kneebone Duke of Edinburgh award: Mrs Parkinson Photography GCSE with Miss Miles and Mr Hirst Opportunities to contribute to school development. Mentoring younger students: training qualification with Mr Davis

5 School based one off opportunities: Enrichment Launch 2012-2013 Miss Harris- Enrichment coordinator & Mrs Lea -Careers Coordinator 5 First Aid Courses organised yearly as one off sessions Sign language mini one off session: Mr Hirst Music band and Q and A session

6 Additional opportunities which are available through consultation Enrichment Launch 2012-2013 Miss Harris- Enrichment coordinator & Mrs Lea -Careers Coordinator 6 Squash coaching sessions: Queens sports club: Miss Denton Activities at Mixenden activity centre can be arranged through consultation with Miss Harris (a small fee may apply) Sailing voyage: Possibility to gain a bursary to crew a sailing boat for a week with the Jubilee Sailing Trust, Tall ships or Trinity sailing. This will be organised in conjunction with a volunteering placement at Ravenscliffe Secondary School.

7 Work experience placements including: Supporting a local primary school as a reading mentor/assistant Working with disabled children and SEN staff at Ravenscliffe Halifax Hospital: hospital volunteers (Sunday mornings): Mrs Lea Huddersfield Hospital: hospital volunteers; Hannah Meehan Year 13 (TBC) New in 2013 work placement possibilities: Barclays and Lloyds life skills programme and work experience to include possibilities in: Mortgages- Business Cashier work- Personal banking Leadership and management

9 EPQ success: How many completed successfully in May? 15 with a whole range of interesting and individual topics How many were assessed at an A/A*? 86% What did the students say? Students in the last cohort at Crossley Heath said they got a lot out of the course, learning valuable research, presentation, analytical and essay writing skills. Students also improved self-organisation and referencing skills whilst at the same time gaining in-depth knowledge and experience in a topic of their own choice. All of these skills will help with applications to University and work.
