1 EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND. Claudia Palacios & Sergio Mansilla

2 Scottish & Northern Ireland’s educational systems. Scotland:  primary phase (from 5 to 12 years) and secondary phase (from 12 to 16 years). Cycle of 7 years divided in 3 stages: P1 to P3 (stage of primary education), P4 to P5 (stage happens) and P6 and P7 (primary top stage).  The admission to the public schools takes place without any reference to the capacity or to the aptitude of the pupil.  There is not a diploma of conclusion of the primary school.  The secondary top education is given in the last two years of the secondary school (S5 and S6).  The Scotch diploma of education of top degree (SCE) is realized in one year and the examination is done at the end of S, to the age of 16 or 17 years.

Northern Ireland:  The age of the obligatory education spreads from 4 to 16 years and the educations are given in primary and secondary schools.  The post-obligatory system of Northern Ireland follows the same scheme that the system Englishman(English) and Welshman.  The school year has the same duration that in the primary schools.  The post-obligatory system of Northern Ireland follows the same scheme that the system Englishman(English) and Welshman.

6 Differences Scotland & N. I.England & Wales. Schooling from 4 to 16 years. Selective schools (11-18 ) (Secondary school). The school year has the same duration that in the primary schools. Official certifications are not demanded to enter the secondary top school. Scottish Certificate of Education Standard Grade. Grades varying from 7 to 1. Schooling from 5 to 16 years. Secondary school: 12-18. Average schools:  average considered primary schools (8-12).  Average considered secondary schools (9-13). General Certificate of Secondary Education, GCSE. Grades varying from A* to G.
