Nationalist – placing the needs of the country over the needs of the individual.

All of these factors led to people looking to the extreme parties for answers.

10. Why was politics becoming more violent in Germany during the 1920s?
A key development in German politics after the First World War was the fact that political parties built their own private armies, which ranks were swelled when soldiers returned home from the front with no employment opportunities with the bitter taste of defeat.
Initially, these private armies were for protection but they developed into antagonistic groups ready and open for a fight at any given opportunity.
The main political private armies were –
Rotfrontkämpfer – Red Front Fighters for the communists.
The Freikorps – unofficial army units of demobilised soldiers who kept their arms and hated communism.
