3 TextHelp to Edit and Proofread Academic Writing Speech - Text Aloud Open Word Document Open TextHelp From Current Toolbar, select Writing Features Select Play for text to be read aloud Click on Play drop down list and select ‘Read by paragraph’ Select voice and adjust pitch, speed and volume Place cursor anywhere and Click on Play button to hear Click on pause button to pause or stop button to stop Disability Support Service

4 TextHelp to Edit and Proofread Academic Writing Checking Spelling using MS Word To Spell Check a document using MS Word Open document to be checked Click on Review Tab on top of Word document Then click on Spelling and Grammar tab The spell check will check every word Choose to ignore once, ignore all or change It will tell you when the spelling and grammar check is complete Disability Support Service

5 Using TextHelp to Edit and Proofread Academic Writing Checking Spelling using Spell Check Open document and select word to be checked Click Spell Check You will see mis-spelt words highlighted in red To hear word, click on Play or click on each definition Use the buttons to guide you – change, change all, add custom, auto correct, ignore

6 Disability Support Service Using TextHelp to Edit and Proofread Academic Writing Sounds Like and Confusable Words facility Open document Click on Confusable Words icon Confusable words will be highlighted in text When you click on each, a list of alternative words appears with descriptions. Click Play to hear Choose to Ignore (if original word is right) Choose to Always Ignore (if you never confuse word) If different word, select and replace

7 Using TextHelp to Edit and Proofread Academic Writing Tracking Changes Open document with tutor comments Click on Review tab on top of Word document Tutor comments and tracked changes appear Use Previous or Next to move between comments and tracked changes – see Changes box Delete comments before re-submission Accept or Reject tracked changes before re-submission Disability Support Service
