Francisco Pizarro was born in 1476 in Trujillo, Spain as the illegitimate son of Gonzalo Pizarro and Francisca González. He grew up poor and without any education, unable to read or write. While he was young, he was told stories of the new world and of the many explorers. Hearing about the exploits of his countrymen in the new world, he developed a desire to explore the new world to gain wealth and fame.

 Francisco Pizzaro went on his expedition in order to locate the Incan Empire. This empire was rumored to be full of gold. The discovery of such a place would surely lead to wealth and fame.

 Pizarro sailed from Panama to South America, and went by land in search of the Incan Empire. This route took Pizarro through several Incan outposts where he was able to acquire translators. When he found the main city, he was able to capture, ransom, and kill the leader while looting a large amount of gold from the city.

 Francisco Pizarro went on three separate expeditions in order to locate the Empire. For his first two voyages, the governor of Panama sponsored him, and paid the expenses. For his final journey, King Charles the 5 th paid the expenses. He was given men and horses to help him on his exploration. They would help carry any supplies and riches acquired during the voyages.

 Francisco Pizzaro's many expeditions made a great, lasting impact. During his third and final voyage, Pizarro founded the capitol of Peru, the city of Lima, and set the foundation for Spanish settlement within Central and South America. However, these expeditions did not come without some negative outcomes as well. Pizarro showed just how greedy and vicious the conquistadors could be during this time. He showed little regard toward human life, killing many to achieve the wealth he desired. While this was the norm of exploration in the 1500's, it has since become looked upon as a cruel example of the treachery exhibited by these explorers.
