A prescription for a person who is nearsighted is negative. The greater the absolute value, the stronger the prescription. Which prescription is stronger, –3 or 2 ? Eyeglasses

EXAMPLE 1 Finding Opposites EXAMPLE 3 Write the opposite of the integer. a. 5 b. –12 c. –9 The opposite of 5 is –5. The opposite of –12 is 12. Because –9 = 9, the opposite of –9 is –9.
