What is geothermal?? Geothermal heating is a way of heating buildings by running pipes down into the earth and “sucking” up the heat. Thus making your house warm and not hurting the environment. The present use! The present use of geothermal power is heating and cooling houses or any other type of buildings. The present use of geothermal power is heating and cooling houses or any other type of buildings.

Optimum conditions for use People use geothermal products to heat or cool a home/building without polluting the environment. Another reason why people use geothermal products is because they save money using it! People use geothermal products to heat or cool a home/building without polluting the environment. Technology involved There are 2 types of geothermal systems on the market; underwater systems and underground systems. The underwater system is efficient and it is known as an open system. The underground systems work by pumping water and non- toxic antifreeze through a safe and continuous loop using polyethylene pipes.
6
Environmental impacts Geothermal power plants do have some environmental impacts. The major impacts of geothermal plant construction and energy production are gas emissions, land use, noise, and potential ground subsidence.
7
Where can it be located in Canada? The government of Canada have been doing geothermal-electrical test in Meager Mountain-Pebble Creek area of British Columbia, where a 100 MW facility could be developed.
8
Future importance Geothermal energy is a renewable resource. To achieve the goal of lowering cost and risk, other types of nontraditional resources and experimental systems are being explored. Among these are hot dry rock resources, improved heat exchangers, and improved condenser efficiency. Geothermal energy is a renewable resource. Did you know that??? Natural Resources Canada is offering homeowners a new residential energy efficiency assessment service. When you replace your existing heating system with a geothermal heat pump, you are entitled to a $3,500 grant. The maximum grant you can receive through this retrofit program is $5,000.
