2. Vocabulary - Clauses These are the vocabulary words for this lesson. Read through carefully and print out if possible. Don't be overwhelmed. The information will be repeated throughout the module, and there will be practice exercises.

3. Vocabulary - Clauses clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate independent clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate and a complete thought. Independent clauses can stand alone as sentences. dependent clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate that cannot stand alone as a sentence. Dependent clauses begin with a conjunction which results in their being an incomplete thought.

4. Vocabulary - Clauses conjunction - a word that joins parts of a sentence. A conjunction can join words, phrases, or clauses. coordinating conjunction - a group of conjunctions that join information of equal weight or value in a sentence: fan, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS). coordinate clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate that begins with a coordinating conjunction. Sentences cannot grammatically begin with a coordinating conjunction.

5. Vocabulary - Clauses subordinating conjunction - a type of conjunction that subordinates the words that follow it. While there are many subordination conjunctions, here are some common ones: if though since, although after, because before, while when (ITS AA BB WW). subordinate clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate that begins with a subordinating conjunction. Subordinate clauses are dependent clauses and cannot stand alone as a sentence since they do not complete a thought.

Vocabulary - Clauses relative pronoun - a group of pronouns that are used to relate back to a noun or pronoun: whose that which whichever, who whoever, whom whomever, what whatever (WTWW WW WW WW). These pronouns are types of conjunctions since they connect back to a part of the sentence. relative clause - a group of words with a subject and predicate that begins with a relative pronoun. These clauses are dependent clauses since they are not complete thoughts.
