Compound-Complex Compound-Complex: Contains two or more independent clauses, and at least one or more subordinate clauses. EX: The band began to play, and Clarissa was pulled onto the floor for a dance that was starting EX: Whenever we go on vacation, our neighbors mow our yard, and they collect our mail.

Complex Complex: C ontains one independent clause and at least one subordinate clause. EEX: T he boy who left is my cousin. EEX: W hen I hear classical music, I think of Aunt Sofia.

SIMPLE Simple: Simple sentence has only one independent clause. It may have a compound subject or a compound verb or both! EX: Kim and Maureen read each others stories about dogs. KIM and MAUREEN are the subject. Then READ is the verb. EX: The good rain will help the farmers crop. RAIN is the subject and HELP is the verb.

COMPOUND Compound: Contains two or more independent clauses and no subordinate clauses EX: No one was injured in the fire, but several homes were destroyed, and many trees burned down.
