Clean Fossil Fuels Technologies which convert coal, gas & oil to energy with reduced emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Existing Plant Low NOx burners fitted to all coal fired power stations to reduce any oxide of nitrogen emissions, which are associated with acid rain All coal used at E.ON sites has a low sulphur content Biomass co-firing projects currently running at all three coal fired stations in the UK. Flue Gas Desulphurisation unit fitted at Ratcliffe-on-Soar which removes 90% of sulphur dioxide from the fumes
8
Areas of Research Cleaner Coal Combustion - Plant efficiency improvements, advanced coal- fired supercritical boilers, fluidised bed combustion Capture & Storage of Carbon Dioxide - pre & post combustion, capture of and transportation & long-term storage of CO2 Innovative Technologies - Integrated gasification Combined cycle, fuel cells, advanced combined cycle gas turbines.
