UN WORKS for BPW International Dr. Arzu ÖZYOL 2014-2017

ADVOCACY The root of our advocacy feature is embedded in the work with the United Nations. BPW lobbied for the formation of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and supported many women’s issues soon after the founding of the United Nations. The effort of BPW International was granted by general consultative statue.

BPW has continued its representation in almost 68 years by our UN Representatives who have an immense source of knowledge and experiences at UN Headquarters in New York, Vienna, Geneva; UN regional offices (UNECA, UNECE, UNESCAP, UNESCWA, UNECLAC); UNESCO, UNICEF, ILO, WHO, UNCTAD, UNIDO, FAO, UN DPI; and continues to work closely with UN Global Compact and UN Women in the framework of United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles.

WORK PACKAGE I DISSEMINATION of UN WORKS Restructuring the UN link on the web-page of BPW International (especially for facilitating access to updated information from UN Office) Restarting use of Webex (especially for creating strong organizational memory) Using Social Media Tools (especially for increasing awareness on the works of ad-hoc initiatives)

WORK PACKAGE 2: EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION IN CSW PROCESSES FOR D20 Identification of D20 will be realized according to the criteria that are mentioned in the application form of D20. Accreditation for equal number of delegates from each region is preferable Participation to the Forum that will be held on March 9 and March 21 (please visit for more information: www.ngocsw.org) is mandatory.www.ngocsw.org Participation to the morning briefings is mandatory. Reporting of the sessions which the delegates participated in, is mandatory for D20.

WORK PACKAGE III INSTITUTIONALIZATION Regular Reporting by UN Representatives and Members: It is important to create organizational memory and enable our members to access information about UN issues on time. The tool for Regular Reports were developed for our members who participated in the meetings on behalf of BPW. Annual Reporting by UN Representatives : It is important to increase advocacy capacity of our Organization and make performance rating of the UN representatives. The tool for Annual Reports were developed to systemize the works of our representatives. Increasing the number of UN Agencies that we will collaborate with There are many cross cutting issues concerning women’s overall well- being in matters of health, education, access to all resources, work, safety, human rights and personal dignity, however, BPW International will benefit from/to the cooperation of different UN agencies.

WORK PACKAGE I V AD-HOC INITIATIVES Increasing in the number of members (including young BPW members) who are active in UN Works at national, regional and international levels ” THE WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES BEIJING+20 COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS CEDAW PROCESS OR FOR DIFFERENT TOPICS ASSOCIATED WITH THE UN PROCESSES and POLICIES THAT OUR MEMBERS RECOMMENDED, IF THEY WILL UNDERTAKE THE LEADERSHIP OF THE INITIATIVE.

WORK PACKAGE V E- LEARNING PROGRAM AS A TOOL of CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT AND FUND RAISING By the 1st level certification, all of the members will benefit the program free of charge to increase awareness about the basic concepts of feminist literature and relavant UN Processes. By the 2nd level certification, the comprehensive program for a fee will be offered to the members and nonmembers who want to become gender specialist in business agent.

Developing a methodology to create gender experts among our members Developing a methodology to create gender experts will open the doors of companies to professionally trained BPW members and create a subsidiary source of income for BPW International to increase the services that we provide to the communities at the global level.
