Lesson # 16 Metric Conversions Liquids 10 questions

The best way to convert Metric measurements… Is To Understand Them !

For Example… To convert 2 liters to milliliters… It would help if … You understood how big each unit is!

A liter… Is the size of a bag or carton of milk, The “bigger” cartons of milk hold 2 liters!

On the other hand… A milliliter is quite small, As a matter of fact, It takes 355 of them (ml) to make 1 can of Coke, Or Pepsi. Or whatever!

It takes 1000 milliliters to make 1 liter!

So to convert liquid metric measurements… Think about the units… If you go from Bigger to Smaller… you will have to multiply!

But if you convert from Smaller to Bigger… You will have to Divide.

Lets look at some examples… Convert 234 ml to Liters.

234 ml = ? L Converting “smaller” to bigger means… Divide Right.

So divide the 234 by what? (because there are 1000 ml in 1 L) You must divide by 1000

Dividing by 1000 can be done by sliding the decimal… 3 places To the Left!

So 234 ml = ? L 234 ÷ 1000 = 0.234 So 234 ml = 0.234 L

Another example… Convert 0.25 liters to milliliters Difficult ? Watch…

0.25 L = ? ml Bigger to smaller means “multiply”, right. So “multiply” by what? Since there are 1000 ml in one Liter… Multiply by 1000 !

Soooooo… 0.25 must be multiplied by 1000 Which means… 0.25 x 1000 = 250 Yahoo.

Going from Smaller to Bigger… Divide ! ÷

Got it ? Going from Bigger to Smaller Multiply!

And now… Ten questions For Your viewing Pleasure !
