TODAY IN ALGEBRA 2.0… Warm up: Writing the equation of a perpendicular line Learning Goal 1: 2.6 (Part 1) You will fit lines to data in scatter plots Independent Practice-Assignment #5 Learning Goal 2: COE – If I only had a car Application Practice 2
2
WARM UP: NEGATIVE RECIPROCAL!!!!!
3
2.6 SCATTER PLOTS-FITTING LINES TO DATA: Correlations STRONG POSITIVE CORRELATION STRONG NEGATIVE CORRELATION WEAK NEGATIVE CORRELATION WEAK POSITIVE CORRELATION NO CORRELATION
4
Points lie near line with a negative slope Points do not lie near a line Points lie near line with positive slope
5
2.6 SCATTER PLOTS-FITTING LINES TO DATA EXAMPLE: Tell whether the correlation coefficient for the data is closest to -1, -0.5, 0, 0.5, or 1.
6
2.6 SCATTER PLOTS-FITTING LINES TO DATA PRACTICE: For each scatter plot, tell whether the data have a positive, negative or no correlation AND tell whether the correlation coefficient for the data is closest to -1, -0.5, 0, 0.5, or 1.
7
2.6 SCATTER PLOTS-FITTING LINES TO DATA CALCULATING THE LINE OF BEST FIT: DRAW a scatter plot SKETCH a line that divides the points equally AND goes through 2 POINTS CALCULATE SLOPE AND Y- INTERCEPT then write an equation to the line
