… … Layer 0: elementary subtasks Layer 1: main subtasks Global solution Layer 2: integration

ms j ms i ms k EXTERNAL VS INTERNAL REQUIREMENTS: External ( ms i, ms k ): requirements can derive from other main subtasks Internal ( ms j ): requirements can derive from internal stimuli of component elementary subtasks

t0t0 t1t1 t2t2 HIERARCHY EVOLUTION OVER TIME: T 0 : all the main subtasks are represented T 1 : general deadline for execution and integration T 2 : the global solution is finally reached

… … Layer 0: people Layer 1: coordinators Layer 2: final integration coordinator

EXTERNAL VS INTERNAL REQUIREMENTS: External : coordinators of different main subtasks must be able to communicate and cooperate properly Internal : students working at the same main subtask must be able to cooperate productively HIERARCHY EVOLUTION OVER TIME: The group of coordinators varies at each coordination step, since only one coordinator is supposed to participate to further phases An integrant part of each coordination step is the merging of know-how among coordinators

Choice of hardware and software(1) Preliminary study (2) and installation of the components inside the case: motherboard (3), processor (4), DVD burner (5), power supply (6) graphics card (7), network adapter (8), RAM (9), hard disk (10) Connection of external peripherals: monitors (11), mouse (12), keyboard (13) 11 2 4 5 6 13 12 10 8 9 7 1
