3 Communication What tone should our communication set? What are some common forms of communication? What is the correct form of communication? Does body language have an effect on communication? 3

4 Communication Skills What is the most important skill to have to be a good communicator?  Public speaking ability?  Clear speech?  Large Vocabulary?  Detailed knowledge? 4

6 Listening Skills Is hearing the same as listening? 6

7 Listening Strategies Stop: Focus on the person speaking and their concerns. Listen: Strive for an overall understanding of what the speaker is trying to communicate to you. Ask Questions: Clarify your understanding of the topic. Don’t Blame: Listen to the speaker in their entirety before reacting. Look for the root cause of the problem/situation. 7

14 Group/Team Communication Understanding: Is the goal or topic clear to everyone in the group. Define responsibilities: Ensure that everyone is clear what their role/responsibilities are. Listen to everyone: We all have our own opinions. 14
