7 Tips for Your Job Search Start thinking about your job search soon after starting the program Talk to people in different types of library jobs Get on jobs lists Pay attention to what skills employers are seeking:  What you need to learn  What classes to take  What internships to do  Special certifications needed

8 More Tips Learn what opportunities are available in what type of library and where Find out if there is anything special about finding jobs in certain types of libraries (e.g., starting early, filling out applications) Read up on career options Learn more about what you might want to do – maybe what you hadn’t even thought of yet! Be flexible, if you can, in where you apply (location and type of library or type of position)

9 Tips about flexibility From Shontz’s “The Librarian’s Career Guidebook”: “If you are geographically limited, think broadly about type of library or job. The more restricted you are in one aspect of job hunting, the more open-minded you should be in the others. If you know that you will be place-bound after graduation, prepare yourself to be open-minded about the type of library or information center and about the kind of work. While you are in school, look for ways to learn about all the kinds of work settings that exist in your chosen community.”
