4 FOUNDATION TYPES SLAB- ON –GRADE A CONCRETE SLAB POUR ON THE GROUND WITH A INTEGRAL CONCRETE BEAM AT THE SLAB EDGE. TYPICALLY NOT USED IN COLD CLIMATES DUE TO SETTLEMENT AND IS THE CHEAPEST AND WEAKEST OF ALL BUILDING FOUNDATIONS.

11 FOUNDATION TYPES CRAWL SPACE SHALLOW DEPTH FOUNDATION, LEAVING ROUGHLY 2’ TO 4’ BETWEEN THE GROUND AND BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR JOIST.

16 FULL BASEMENT TYPICALLY AT A FULL STORY HEIGHT BELOW GROUND, AND CONSTRUCTED WITH CAST-IN- PLACE CONCRETE. VERY COMMON IN COLDER CLIMATES WHERE FROST LEVEL REQUIRE GREATER DEPTHS AND IN HIGH-END HOMES WHERE THE ADDITIONAL SPACE IS REQUESTED.

28 FOUNDATION SYSTEMS FOUNDATION WALLS MOST FOUNDATIONS START WITH FOUNDATION WALLS. THIS IS GREAT NEWS BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNOW HOW TO ADD WALLS RIGHT? ADDING A STRUCTURAL WALL IS BASICALLY THE SAME AS ADDING AN ARCHITECTURAL WALL. JUST REMEMBER; WITH A FOUNDATION WALL, REVIT LIKE TO START AT THE TOP AND LOOK DOWN.

29 ADDING STRUCTURAL FOOTINGS STRUCTURAL FOOTINGS IN REVIT KNOW WHERE THEY BELONG. IF YOU HAVE A STRUCTURAL WALL IN REVIT PLACED IN THE MODEL, YOU CAN ADD A STRUCTURAL FOOTING TO SUPPORT THAT WALL. REVIT WILL ADD THE NEW FOOTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WALL. IF THE WALL MOVES, THE FOOTING MOVES WITH IT.

31 ADDING STRUCTURAL COLUMNS PLACING STRUCTURAL COLUMNS TYPICALLY A STRUCTURAL COLUMN IS PLACED ON A GRID INTERSECTION (OR PERHAPS OFFSET FROM A GRID INTERSECTION). YOU CAN ALSO PLACE A STRUCTURAL COLUMN WITH NO GRID WHATSOEVER. PLACING A COLUMN IS AS EASY AS PLACING A DESK OR ANY OTHER COMPONENT IN REVIT.

32 PIERS AND SPREAD FOOTINGS PIERS ARE TO BE ADDED TO THE MODEL AS CONCRETE COLUMNS. SPREAD FOOTINGS ARE TO BE ADDED TO THE MODEL AS AN ISOLATED FOUNDATION. REMEMBER, YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE STRUCTURE TAB TO ADD THE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS TO YOUR MODEL.

33 STRUCTURAL MEMBERS—COLUMNS There is a Column button in both the Home and Structure toolbars; use whichever matches your workflow. Column > Structural Column button NOTE: Structural Columns get their content from the Structural folder in the Library. Architectural Columns get their content from the Columns folder in the Library.
