Oct 24, 2005 Making a Brochure with Microsoft Word Mr. Sherry

Agenda 1.Examine brochures and their uses, Think about what you would want someone to put in their brochure. 2.Use Microsoft Word to lay out a document that makes a Brochure 3.Find out which panel goes in which column/page in Word 4.Inserting images and deciding on which ones we will need 5.Deciding what we will put in our brochures.

Lay out Your PAGE Lay out your page as follows –File…Page Setup…Margins: Set the Orientation. The 3 fold brochure is in Landscape form. Make sure the Left and Right Margins are the same so the columns are centered on the page. I use.5”

Lay out Your COLUMNS Chose the appropriate number of columns using dialog from Format…Columns… (3 for this brochure). Use Equal column width. Use Line Between so you can see your columns while you work.

Remove LINES Lines point out inaccurate folding. Remove the column lines by un-checking “Line beteen”

Moving around In this form, as you enter information, it will appear in the leftmost column. When that column fills, the information wraps and starts to appear in the next column to the right Column 1 fills up with information and eventually continues to (Wraps) into column 2

Moving to the Next Column using BREAK When you want to move to a new page in Word, you insert a page break into the document (Ctrl-Enter, or Insert…Break…Page Break). When you want to move to a new column in a page, it works the same way. Use Insert…Break…Column Break. To see your break, use the Show/Hide tool:

Working With Your Columns You should now see something like this:

Laying out your paper Figure out which column goes where –Take a blank piece of paper and fold it the way you want your brochure to look. –Label each area of the paper with its page number and/or a letter. –When you open the paper, you will see what column each area of the brochure will be in.

Labeling Back 6 Front 1 5 3 2 4 Outside Inside

Final Touches Remember to Format…Columns and remove Line Between before printing. Unless you can fold PERFECTLY on the line, the line will make your fold look bad. If you need more space in your columns, you can decrease the space between the columns a bit, but if you decrease it too much, it will make your inaccuracies in your folding stand out too much.

What we’ve learned 1.We’ve learned 2.What brochures can be used for. 3.How to lay out a 3 fold brochure using Columns in Microsoft Word 4.How to decide what page goes where 5.How to work with images 6.How to decide what to put in our brochure
