What is a School Councillor A School Councillor is someone who represents their School on a School Council.

What do I have to do to become a School Councillor?  Be able to speak out  Someone who will take it seriously  Someone who can put across good ideas  Someone caring  Someone others can trust and be a role model  Someone very reliable  Able to keep to the subject  Someone who is enthusiastic

Class Representative  If you are interested in becoming your class representative on the School Council. Your Class Teacher has a copy of the ‘Role of a School Councillor’ to give today. You need to write a short presentation of why you think you would be a good class representative and present this to your class who will then decide who they want to put forward for the School Council Election, which will take place next Tuesday 18 th September 2012.

Voting  Your class will be asked to vote for the person who they think will best represent them at School Council Meetings.

How do we vote?  You will all be given a voting paper with the names of two boys and two girls from your class.  You will vote for one boy and one girl by placing a cross at the side of their name on your voting slip.

Voting  You will then take your voting slip to the library.  There you will be asked to put a cross next to the children who you think will best represent your class.  You will then fold your voting slips in half and put them in the ballot box.

Counting the votes.  Mrs Race will then count up the votes from each class.  The boy and girl with the most votes from each class will be elected as School councillors for that Class.  The boy and girl with the second most votes will be deputy councillors they will attend meetings in the absence of the elected School Councillor.  I will come round to each class to give the results of the vote.

School Councillors  How will I be able to recognise a School Councillor?  All School Councillors will be given a badge.

School Councillors  A photograph will be taken of all School Councillors and this will be displayed in the Dinning Room.  Another photograph will be taken of your Class Representatives for the School Council and this will be displayed in your classroom.
