EVERY SCHOOL IS DIFFERENT… BBryn Hafod has significantly more children requiring individual support for Special Educational Needs (SEN) than most schools WWe have significantly more children with Statements for SEN than most schools EEvery year group at Bryn Hafod is different; for example, our current Year 6 includes 5 children in our Special Needs Resource Base TThese are NOT excuses – we need to improve further and faster

VALUE ADDED RESULTS 2012

WHAT CHANGES HAVE WE MADE?  We have introduced “Big Maths” across the school  We have started teaching the wider curriculum through “Cornerstones”  Our focus on Literacy and Numeracy is sharper than ever  We are tracking pupil progress through “Incerts”

BIG MATHS  Big Maths is fun and gives children confidence  It is designed to teach basic number skills  Children take part in weekly tests to ensure progress  The same approach is used across the school  It is proven to raise achievement in maths

CORNERSTONES The Four Cornerstones of Learning:  Engage – trips, visitors, inside and outside  Develop – knowledge, understanding, skills  Innovate – applying their learning  Express - sharing learning in a variety of ways Writing skills are applied throughout every Cornerstones Project

INCERTS  An on-line system to track every single pupil in every single subject  Links to key skills in all areas  Evidence can be attached using any mobile device  Targets are set to ensure that good progress is made  Over half the primary schools in Wales are now using Incerts
