3 Rural Infrastructure and Agro-Industries Division www.fao.org/ag/ags The process: Greening Food Value Chains The process that requires: 1.The public sector to create partnerships with all stakeholders ( private sector, civil society, donors, etc.) and use the public economy to provide incentives 2.The new roles that this involves: Multi-stakeholder partnerships and not only 3. The evaluation of all economic, social and of course environmental potential benefits and costs 4.Consumption and usage as well as amelioration and replenishment of the natural environment ( Reverse channels and not only)

5 Rural Infrastructure and Agro-Industries Division www.fao.org/ag/ags Definition: Green Food Value Chain Value at each stage ( economic, environmental, social, cultural, etc.) Proactively reduces the usage of the natural environment so as to diminish or mitigate adverse impacts or even have positive impacts Considers disposal and recycling patterns of waste, so as to recapture value at every stage of the chain and thus further reduce environmental impact and increase economic and social benefits
