2 The Rotary Foundation The mission of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understand, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. It was conceived as an endowment fund in 1917 for the purpose of “doing good in the world”. Funds Polio Plus, scholarships for international study, group study exchanges, and international humanitarian projects.

3 P ROGRAM O BJECTIVES Increasing awareness of and respect for cultural differences Instilling in scholars the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self” Encouraging scholars to dedicate their personal and professional lives to improving quality of life Developing leaders who can address the humanitarian needs of the world community Fostering a lifelong association between Rotary and its scholars

4 Rotary Foundation Scholarship Committee Programs Ambassadorial Scholarships Rotary World Peace Fellowships

5 Ambassadorial Scholarships Provides a flat grant of $26,000 for one academic year of study in a foreign country of the scholars choice Support approximately 800 students studying abroad annually Introduces scholars from nearly 70 countries to the people and cultures of over 70 different countries Empowering scholars to improve international understanding for over half a century

6 World Peace Fellowships Each year, up to 110 fellowships offered internationally – 60 master degree and 50 professional development certificate fellowships Offered at six Rotary Centers operated in partnership with seven leading universities Fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their abilities to have a significant, positive impact upon world peace and conflict resolution during their careers

10 Current Plan Increase the number of Ambassadorial candidates from District 5400 Candidates may be students attending college in our District or residents of the District attending school elsewhere Identify key Rotarians in each community hosting a campus to serve on the District Foundation Scholarship Committee Identify key campus offices to liaison with – Honors Program, Study Abroad Program, Financial Aid Office, Graduate College, Faculty Senate Identify key campus publication deadlines so we may include Rotary scholarship information and participate in key campus information meetings – new faculty orientation, study abroad fairs, etc.
