Literally: Happy; fortunate Christian “blessing”: Purifying sin and evil by the power of the blood of Christ Good relationship with God Gifts from God

Blessings in the Kingdom of God Being poor in spirit = Totally dependent on God Mourning = Regretting and killing sin Meekness = Humility from strength; rejecting arrogance Hungry & Thirsty = Passion for God Mercy = Kindness for an unkindness; compassion

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ~ Matthew 5:8

Pure in Heart An undivided affection. The will (heart; soul; mind) is clean from evil motives. Free from stain or contaminating substance. “…that ideal state of mind of the person who longs to serve God and others for the sheer unselfish joy of honoring (loving) the Creator...” ~ William Barclay

Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into a man's mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.’” 12 Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?” 13 He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. 14 Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” 15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man ‘unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’” ~ Matthew 15:10-20

‘Seeing’ God Physically: To observe with the eyes. All will see God at the final Judgment (Romans 12:10-12). Spiritually: To recognize, experience and enjoy the wonder and nearness of God’s presence both now and in heaven.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. ~ 1 John 3:1-3
