PROMPT 1 INVESTIGATE THE AUTHOR OF YOUR SHORT STORY. HOW DOES/DID THEIR LIFE INFLUENCE THIS SHORT STORY? CONSIDER THINGS SUCH AS SYMBOLISM, METAPHOR, CHARACTERS, CONNECTIONS, ETC.

PROMPT 2 SELECT A CHARACTER FROM YOUR SHORT STORY. PERFORM A CHARACTER ANALYSIS. REMEMBER THE THREE THINGS THAT MAKE UP THIS TYPE OF ESSAY (ROLE, PERSONALITY, DEVELOPMENT)

PROMPT 3 HOW DOES YOUR SHORT STORY REPRESENT THE TIME PERIOD IT WAS WRITTEN IN? INVESTIGATE THE TIME PERIOD YOUR SHORT STORY WAS WRITTEN IN. HOW DOES IT REFLECT PROBLEMS, TRIUMPHS, HISTORICAL EVENTS, ETC.?

PROMPT 4 WHAT OVERALL METAPHOR IS YOUR SHORT STORY WORKING TO CONVEY TO ITS AUDIENCE? DISCUSS HOW YOUR PIECE IS RELATING TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE LITERAL WORDS ON THE PAGE. THINK BIGGER PICTURE.

PROMPT 5 COMPARE AND CONTRAST TWO SHORT STORIES USING SUCH FOCUS POINTS AS THEME, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, SYMBOLISM, ETC. MAKE SPECIFIC DECISIONS AROUND WHAT YOU ARE COMPARING AND CONTRASTING. YOU SHOULD BE PROVING A POINT.
