CHOLESTEROL AWARENESS PROGRAM INFORMATIVE PROGRAM

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of this program is to educate participants about the overall concept of cholesterol and its effects on the body This program explains: What cholesterol is How it is introduced to the body The dangers of improper levels Tow a person can affect those levels and An overall explanation of cholesterol awareness importance

RATIONALE High cholesterol shows no symptoms but its effects can be deadly leading to heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and more. According to the CDC, Control Disease Center On average, 98.9 million Americans aged 20 years and older have a total blood cholesterol level higher than the indicated healthy standard Only 1 out of every 3 adults with high cholesterol have their condition controlled

NEEDS ASSESSMENT I decided to conduct a local survey which tested the knowledge of a small population in my surrounding area My survey was given to people who were at least 20 years of age This survey asked general questions about LDL’s HDL’s Cholesterol testing Factors that influence cholesterol and Other related topics. I asked these types of questions to get a better understanding of the level of information known about cholesterol.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT Out of 10 participants 40% correctly described cholesterol 0% of participants answered all questions correctly Although this population was small the results I obtained from the first survey showed the population could benefit from a cholesterol information session

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES To increase the participants overall knowledge of cholesterol Objective #1: 80% of the participants will show an increase in knowledge pertaining to the purpose and function of cholesterol after the program is complete Objective #2: 80% of the participants will show an increase in knowledge pertaining to the risks of high cholesterol To increase the participants desire to get cholesterol screenings regularly Objective #1: 50% of participants will ask their health care professionals for a cholesterol screening or will indicate that they plan to in the near future

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Information Session: 10-15 minute Presentation It touched on topics such as: What is cholesterol Where does it come form Why could it be dangerous How achieve and maintain healthy cholesterol levels

MARKETING PLAN Using social media and Rowan University email. The message stated: “Hello, I would like to invite you to partake in a brief informative program that will increase your education about cholesterol. This program will last no longer than 20 minutes. Prior to and also following the presentation I will ask you to answer three brief surveys total. Your participation in this program would be greatly appreciated and would help better my education as well as your own. The dates and times for this presentation depend on your availability. Please contact me if you are interested. Thank you!”

BUDGET This Project used a very low budget due to the lack or equipment needed The only expense was a 10 cents fee per piece of paper printed. This program required 30 papers for printing. This includes 3 sets of surveys printed for each type of evaluation. The total amount of money spent for this presentation was $3.00

EVALUATION 100% of participants showed improvement from their first results The amount of people who achieved a 76% or higher increased from 1 participants to 8 The amount of participants who received 26-50% correct decreased from 8 to 1

Only 40% of the participants noted that they would inquire about or seriously consider doing a cholesterol screening For those who replied that they were not inclined to ask or get tested, 60%, they listed reasons such as: Not interested I am too young I live a healthy lifestyle
