OpenWIS approach: a Partnership  A consortium of 4 National Met Services and 1 service provider team up to develop the software…

OpenWIS approach: open-source … based on open-source components, bound for open-source release, garanteed to be maintained and sustained by Partners, supported by a future open-source community…

OpenWIS approach: fit for WIS … fit for all WIS functions (GISC, DCPC, NC), depending on activated or disabled functional components… …modular, scalable, reliable… …implementing standard external interfaces specified by WMO… global data meta data WIS Harnesses global dataoutbound to users Local System Data Sources MSS / FSS Disse- mination OpenWIS Authenti- cation Authori- zation User Store PORTAL Access / Follow Requests Discover Browse Catalogue Admin & Monitoring Request Processing Replication Collection 24 hour Cache DATA SERVICE Adminis- tration Monitoring ADMINISTRATION METADATA SERVICE Catalogue Access Synchro- nization Harvesting DAR Catalogue SECURITY SERVICE

OpenWIS approach: fit for all … highly configurable, exposing internal interfaces which a Harness layer can adapt to your own local Information System … … allowing a variety of deployment strategies to meet local constraints (security, federation of centres)… global data meta data WIS Harnesses global dataoutbound to users Local System Data Sources MSS / FSS Disse- mination OpenWIS Authenti- cation Authori- zation User Store PORTAL Access / Follow Requests Discover Browse Catalogue Admin & Monitoring Request Processing Replication Collection 24 hour Cache DATA SERVICE Adminis- tration Monitoring ADMINISTRATION METADATA SERVICE Catalogue Access Synchro- nization Harvesting DAR Catalogue SECURITY SERVICE

GISC Toulouse can…  harvest metadata from you, to present your products as part of the global WIS catalogue…

GISC Toulouse can…  provide access to a metadata Editor facility, to create and validate metadata for your products, using templates or cloning existing metadata records…

GISC Toulouse can…  accompany your documentation effort for GTS bulletins: - WMO entrusted Météo-France with producing the “baseline” set of GTS metadata - in line with the latest IPET-MDI recommendations - available at ftp://GTSMetadata@ftp.meteo.fr GTS DAR Metadata Generator MD Index Additional Input Volume C1

GISC Toulouse can…  identify gaps in the WIS catalogue for your country and create on-the-fly draft « stop-gap » metadata for undocumented priority 1&2 GTS products…

GISC Toulouse can…  allow you to D iscover products of interest in the global WIS Catalogue…

GISC Toulouse can…  provide A ccess to Global products in the 24 hour Cache…

GISC Toulouse can… … on a punctual basis or as a recurrent subscription…

GISC Toulouse can… … for a R etrieval as FNC or WMO-FTP files, sent by e-mail or FTP directly to you, or available via HTTP in a shopping cart…

GISC Toulouse can… … as an institutional user, you may choose dissemination via the public network or RMDCN… …as a user known to the local MSS, you may submit a request for a change in the Toulouse MSS routing table…

GISC Toulouse can… … as a user known to the local MSS (here EGRR), you may also view the current GTS flow routed to you, and view recent GTS events.

Plan ▼The OpenWIS project & OpenWIS software ▼V-GISC timeline ▼What can GISC Toulouse do for you ? ▼What can GISC Exeter & GISC Toulouse do for you ?

GISC Exeter & GISC Toulouse RMDCN DCPC 1 NC 2 DCPC 1 Virtual Organisation GISC Exeter GISC Toulouse INTERNE T synchronization processes and backup functions metadata synchronization data replication metadata synchronization data replication … are natural partners for synchronisation processes and backup arrangements…

GISC Exeter & GISC Toulouse … constantly monitor the availability of each others main components… …warn Operators when core components are unavailable… … can manually switch to a backup mode for some / all components…

GISC Exeter & GISC Toulouse … the GISC in a back up mode will take over harvesting tasks, will adapt its ingestion of the GTS flow, and will process “backed-up” subscriptions for “backed-up” users…

Thank you for your attention !

GISC Exeter & GISC Toulouse Institutional users will likely fall in the « backed-up user » category:  the backup GISC will harvest MD from you  the backup GISC will collect your products in the GTS flow  you will continue receiving data (if you choose to compose a backup for your subscription requests)

OpenWIS approach: fit for all … allowing a variety of deployment strategies to meet local constraints (security, federated centres)… meta data Local System Data Sources global data WIS Harnesses global data outbound to users Internet / RMDCN DMZ Restricted Area DMZ MSS / FSS Disse- mination Copies OpenWIS PORTAL METADATA SERVICE DAR Catalogue 24 hour Cache DATA SERVICE Access / Follow Requests Discover Browse Catalogue Admin & Monitoring Request Processing Replication Collection Catalogue Access Synchro- nization Harvesting SOLR Index

V-GISC timeline +WIS at MF timeline (audit, GISC oper, déploiements DCPC à court terme) V-GISC approach: WIS for all Partnership based on open-source components, future open-source community Fit for all WIS functions: components deployed / activated or not Fit for WIS (functionally, high availability, external interfaces as specified by WMO) Fit for all (modular, highly configurable) Fit for all (expose internal interfaces which can adapt to the local info system) Fit for all (a variety of deployment strategies are possible to meet local constraints: federated local centres, security) Main OpenWIS functions, main components (1 or 2 existing slides) Portals facing internet, portals facing the RMDCN etc General

What can GISC Toulouse do for you ? Metadata: + Harvest MD from you (protocols), to present your products as part of the global WIS catalogue, + Draft metadata created by MF for your Global products, + Provide an account to create MF for your products, using templates or cloning an existing MD for a similar products, editor facility, includes validation facility + Identify gaps in the catalogue for your country (CCCC) Data: + DAR of products of interest in the catalogue + punctual requests or recurring requests + disseminated as FNC or WMO-FTP files, by e-mail, FTP directly to you, or available by HTTP in shopping cart, secondary dissemination options possible, + user known to the local MSS: you may view current GTS routing to you, view recent GTS routing events, request for changes in the Toulouse MSS routing table

What can GISC Toulouse & GISC Exeter do for you ? Institutional users bound to become backed-up: -backup GISC will harvest MD from you -backup GISC will collect your products in the GTS flow -you may compose a backup for your subscription requests: you will continue receiving data Backup arrangements -Constant monitoring of the other GISC status -Automatic warnings to Operators when core components are unavailable -Manual switch to a backup mode for some / all components -Local redundancy organized locally (GISC, MSS) Backup-mode: -take over harvesting tasks tagged as ‘backup mode only’ -modified scope of ingested GTS flow -take over backed-up subscriptions for backed up users

What can you do with OpenWIS Play your role* in the WIS ! (* according to your function) Create & maintain the catalogue of your own products, Share it with you GISC and… the WIS Offer a customized & controlled access to your products Etc etc Besoin de tout rappeler ?
