2 Introduction This power point presentation will give and explain the varies types of digital citizenship. It is always important to know what you are saying and give exact reference to who said what you are saying. In this presentation I will be giving you the guidelines and rules to always keep yourself cleared and safe.

3 Outcome By the end of this power point presentation you will know the do and the don'ts of surfing the internet. You will also have background knowledge on:  Netiquette  Copyright and Fair use  Plagiarism  Safety on the Web  Safety on your computer

4 Netiquette What is Netiquette? Netiquette is a fancy name for network etiquette. Netiquette tells you the do’s and don’ts of the internet. Netiquette means Internet Etiquette. Netiquette is matters of courtesy while communicating with others on the Internet. Etiquette rules and guidelines should be used in all means of electronic use including email, chatting, blogging, forums, message boards, and etc.

5 Copyright !!!!!!!!!!!! What is copyright? Copyright is the rights that a author has over their work for certain amount of time. These are some the copyright laws:  Copying works  Derivative works  Distributing works  Performing works A n author’s rights begins once their work as been created.

6 Why are there Copyright Laws!!!!!! The laws come from the Constitution of the United States. The government believe that those who create should have their work protected. They feel they should receive proper compensation for their effort and hard work. I feel that the Constitution made wonderful points. If you did not create why should you receive all the credit and recognition.

7 Fair Use!!!!!! What is Fair Use? Fair Use law limits copying or distribution of published works without the permission of the author. Examples of Fair Use are:  Quotation of experts  Copying a small part of work by a teacher, student to illustrate or demonstrate a lesson.

8 Four factors of Fair Use!!!  The purpose and nature of the use.  The nature of the copyrighted work.  The nature and substantiality of the material used.  The effect of use on the potential market for or value of the work.

9 Plagiarism!!!!!! What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is deliberate representation of someone’s else words, thoughts, or ideas without attribution in connection. Plagiarism is a form of cheating. Students can be punish with course failure and or suspension.

10 Different Forms of Plagiarism!!!!!  Buying  Stealing  Borrowing  Hiring someone to do your work  Copying large sections

11 Safety on your computer!!!! There are six things that will you’re your computer up and safety running.  Use a Firewall Firewall helps by not allowing certain things cross the wall.  Kill Spyware Kill Spyware prevent unexpected and unannounced information from coming to your computer.  Stay Up-To-Date The user must install the latest viruses protection software in order for the computer to continue running smoothly.

12 Safety on the Web!!!! There are a several different ways to ensure safety on the web but I will be discussing only a few of them.  Communicate with whoever is using your computer.  Know your child’s friends, hobbies and everyday activities.  Know the computer and the programs  Use Internet blocking software  Have communication with parents when children are using the computer  Know abbreviations and acronyms for chat room purposes
