8 Education for Innovation What we have to look at: –What kind of skills and competences matter? Science, maths, … but also problem solving skills, social capital, collaborative learning skills, leadership, creativity, entrepreneurial skills, … Basic skills Transferable skills and competences, meta-cognition and trans-disciplinary knowledge Also attitudes, preferences, norms and social values –Open innovation: not only the skilled matter Skills materialize in networks Social receptiveness for innovation Inequity affects innovation-friendly environment

9 Education for Innovation What we have to look at: –Not only educational attainment, but also (and more importantly) learning outcomes PISA, PIAAC AHELO –Not only formal education, but also informal learning, lifelong learning

10 Innovation in Education Learning to innovate requires innovative education and learning arrangements –CERI has produced vast knowledge base on educational innovation –Will continue to do so in next programme of work

11 Innovation in Education Should be part of innovation strategies But: –What kinds of educational innovation are relevant for open innovation systems? –What kinds of educational innovation beyond technological innovation? –How to overcome the many barriers to educational innovation? –How to innovate informal learning environments, workplace learning, etc.
