7 History/Background of the charity  Since 1991, this special charity event has raised more than $5.1 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation  Money raised was in support of cancer research, prevention and care at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.  Fred Coles, Tournament Chair of 11 years, built this tournament to be one of Calgary’s premier charity events.  Having experienced firsthand the amazing cancer care provided at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre  He worked with the Alberta Cancer Foundation to make a difference here in Calgary.  We now continue the tradition in his memory after his passing in 2008.  At the Alberta Cancer Foundation, we share Fred’s passion for enhancing patient care

9 History/Background of the charity  This is why all the funds from the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Golf Classic will be invested in a glioblastoma (brain cancer) research study aimed at extending the lives of brain cancer patients.  This world-class research takes place right at the Tom Baker Centre and is drastically improving outcomes for patients.

11 Goals  Sources of Help for People with Cancer  People who are dealing with cancer have many needs. We want to help you with these needs as much as possible.  At Tom Baker Cancer Centre we treat your cancer and offer many services to support you and your family.  We have prepared this booklet to let you know about some of the ways that we can help.  we are not able to provide support for all of the special needs that you may have.  This booklet also lists many outside sources of help from the government, community organizations and businesses.  We hope that it will inform you about these services and connect you with solutions to your needs.

13 Statistics  See emergency wait times for AHS. Predicted times are updated every two minutes and are approximate because new patients arrive quickly.  Emergency Dept. Length of Stay  Weekly updates on emergency department lengths of stay in Edmonton and Calgary.  Emergency Medical Services Emergency Medical Services  Because lives are potentially on the line whenever Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are called upon, ensuring we’re providing every patient with the right care, at the right time, by the right provider remains a vital, ongoing goal for Alberta Health Services (AHS).  Performance Measures Performance Measures  Alberta Health Services has developed 16 performance measures which reflect key areas within the health system that are important to Albertans. They are also held as standards within health care.

19 Events More than 400 fundraising events take place each year in support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and each one of them is organized by someone like you! From head shaves to soccer tournaments and everything in between, we’re here to support your fundraising event every step of the way.
