“I wanted to make an entertaining film without any compromises – an uplifting and inspirational story in the spirit of such films as Rocky, Billy Elliot and Chariots of Fire’ (Roger Donaldson). New Zealander, Roger Donaldson, wrote and directed the film in 2005. Donaldson has been making film and television in NZ since the 1970’s. He was previously best known for classic kiwi films, ‘Sleeping Dogs’ (1971)and ‘Smash Palace’ (1980) Roger Donaldson had been working on this film for over 20 years before he started filming it, and had previously directed a short TV documentary about Munro called Burt Munro: Offerings to the God of Speed in 1971. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDCoIaYyeTw
