Self Esteem? What is self-esteem? Is self-esteem a thing? Can you see it or touch it? Is it something that can be bought and sold? Self-esteem is not one of the attributes shown on the OCDSB Community of Character. What attributes help build self-esteem?

General Mills Cereal Video Who produced (made) the video? What products are in the video? Is anything being advertised (sold) in the video? What message might we infer from this video? What are they saying will happen if you eat the product?

Dove Self-Esteem Program Compare it to the last video. How similar are these videos (very similar, a little similar, not very similar)? Who produced (made) this video? Is anything being advertised (sold) in this video? What is the message in the video? Could there be more than one message?

What’s Your Thing? View the “What’s Your Thing?” video. Who produced this video? (see next slide) Is anything being advertised in the video? What is the message? How similar is this video to the second video?

And the Winner is… Working in groups, you will now judge each video for it’s value in promoting self-esteem. In your groups, rate each video from 1 (poor) to 5 (great) based on each criteria. Add the total. On the back of your sheet, please give some reasons to explain your ratings.
