 Self-esteem or self- concept  Self-esteem or self- concept is how you feel about yourself and most of it is influenced by what you think certain others are saying or thinking about you. The best time to teach self- esteem is when they’re babies and they have not developed bad habits and negatives thoughts. The way to build self- esteem is to show respect and meet the needs that he or she cannot take care of yet.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE AREAS OF SELF-ESTEEM? There are five areas of self-esteem: Physical Development, Emotional Development, Cognitive/ Intellectual Development, Social Development, and Spiritual Development. Physical Development: how you feel about your body and health mentally and physically. Emotional Development: how you feel about your feeling and how you express them. Cognitive Development: the ability to think and solve problems. You can help your child solve their problems but don’t solve it for them. Social Development: Teaching your child to get along with others will build their confidence and social skills.

 Help your child become self-motivated.  Behavior is separate from the person, so don’t label them as bad, when they do something wrong.  Allows and prevents them from making mistakes.  When they lose a game take the opportunity to teach them try again.  No matter what their skills are praise them and teach them to be unique, original and independent.

 Give the children permission to pat themself on the back, which teaches them to do things to satisfy their self, not just to please others.  Saying “I love you” is a message best said, not with toys and gifts, but with words, time and lots of hugs.

EEEEncourage decision making : children need to practice decision making and feel good about the choices they make. FFFFollow the child’s lead : Let the child initiate activities and let them know when they have come up with a great idea. GGGGive the child reponsibilities : They can be simple as helping to set the table or clear the table. It makes them feel needed and wanted. TTeach them that it is normal to have disappointments in life, but also how to handle those feelings.
