Radio Stations & Coverage 50 Canadian stations available We’ve tried to ensure we have coverage in as many markets as possible Coverage is 24/7
4
Working with results Results from all media can be intermingled – or not (using source selection) Select which stations to monitor (all, some, or none) for each search Narrow using the Media navigator

7
Speech-to-text software “Transcripts” are automatically generated using speech-to-text software –Computer application records radio transcript and translates spoken word to written text
8
Speech-to-text in the consumer marketplace You may be familiar with more consumer-oriented applications of this technology:
9
Advantages of Speech-to-Text Ability to monitor 24/7 Provide transcripts and audio clips for all content Lower cost Extremely fast turnaround – content is online within 30 minutes of broadcast Self-service for text and audio files (no ordering, no waiting) Edit your own clip length
10
Mitigating factors which decrease the accuracy of auto-transcripts: Poor audio quality (e.g. an interview conducted over a static-prone phone connection) Heavily-accented speaker Use of words not in a dictionary (unusual names, less-common company names, slang, jargon, acronyms) Speaker using poor diction, or talking too quickly (making words run together)
11
Speech-to-text transcripts are… Raw, unedited computer-generated text Can lack punctuation and capitalization, and contain spelling errors Online quickly A tool to make audio files searchable
12
Getting Better Radio Results Use variations on spellings of the words you’re searching Use synonyms (titles, names) Use more general terms, and take advantage of the “and require” box In some cases, create SEPARATE Profiles for Radio monitoring
13
Creative Profiles for Radio - Example Federal By-Election in Vaughan –Seat vacated by our new mayor, Maurizio Bevliacqua –Conservative Candidate is former police chief Julian Fantino
14
Sample result – relevant, but check out the spelling of keywords

Video Demonstration – Radio Monitoring Strategies
18
A reminder… We are monitoring 24/7 – content is not “missed” If a transcription error prevents a hit from arriving in your results list, browse to the channel, date, & time of broadcast. In most of the calls we receive, the caller is aware of the broadcast and just needs to retrieve it.
19
What we’re doing Building a dictionary of common mistranscriptions so we can correct them when they arise
20
…picture yourself saying any of these words and phrases and you’ll get an idea of how the computer might “misinterpret” the spoken words. Selected examples from the translation dictionary
21
Summary Transcripts are intended to allow you to SEARCH the text and LOCATE the clips you need Get CREATIVE with your searches Create SEPARATE Profiles where necessary BROWSE to content anytime SUBMIT common mistranscriptions
