Understanding Obedience 1 Samuel 15:22-23
2
22 Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king." 1 Samuel 15:22-23

17
Example of Saul—His Response
18
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. 1 Sam. 15:9
19

21
Example of Saul—God's View 10 Now the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying, 11 I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My command- ments. And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night. 1 Sam. 15:10-11

Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king. 1 Sam. 15:22-23

There is no excuse for disobedience. There is no substitute for obedience. “Why” one disobeys does not matter!
24
It’s always right to do right; It’s always wrong to do wrong. It’s never right to do wrong; And it’s never wrong to do right!

Example of O.T Jews—Command
26
13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets. 2 Kings 17:13
27
Example of O.T Jews—Response
28
11 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. Zech. 7:11-12
29
Example of O.T Jews—Response 17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts. Jer. 3:17

32
Example of O.T Jews—Response 8 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone followed the dictates of his evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but which they have not done. Jer. 11:8
33
Example of O.T Jews—Response 8 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone followed the dictates of his evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but which they have not done.
