MY ADVENTURE WITH GREEN SHOOTS
2
I just completed a Green Shoots Advanced program and I have developed new skills been to new places and met new people. I enjoyed it and I think this course has given me more confidence.
3
Meeting up Everybody in the program met each other at Tynecastle High School before the first day and we were told what we were going to be doing on the program. The green shoots staff are Matthew and Raz and there were seven of us on the course.
4
The first day we went to Hopetoun House and we cut back all of the rhododendron with a pair of saws and loppers and then did some orienteering. The second day we did some team games, ropes course and at the end we did some archery. The bow was really big and was hard to hit the target.
5
The third day we went down the union canal in canoes with the commonwealth baton. It was fun and I would like to do it again then we had a big BBQ afterwards.
6
The fourth day we did some path work down the path towards the royal infirmary so that it was easy to get through to the hospital The picture on the left is the path on which we were cutting back trees
7
The fifth day we went to camp in this house near Haddington then did some hillwalking and then afterwards had a BBQ.
8
Yew tree The Great Yew Tree Of Ormiston has stood for over 1000 years, growing ever wider and creating a magnificent inner chamber. John Knox apparently preached within this natural church. We visited and it was Cool.
9
The sixth day we went to North Berwick and went to the beach and did some rhodie bashing and then went for a walk along the beach.
10
At Tyninghame Beach we got our picture taken leaning on this fence and then we got one picture done and then it collapsed and we all fell down
11
The seventh day we went to Holyrood Park and did some planning of the next residential and then hiked to the top of Arthur’s Seat.
12
The last day we went to Biggar and we went to the residential we planned the week before and did some canoeing, badger/bat watching. When we were there we saw a shooting star and the big dipper and we slept in native American tepees. On Monday 22nd of September the whole group met with their parents and their teachers to celebrate us completing green shoots. We walked along the water of Leith and got half way and got some sticks for the fire and then we done a quiz while walking to the place we were going. When we got there we pulled out some thistles to let the other plants grow and then did some carving so we could put marshmallows onto our stick. Finishing off the Programme Place we were working
