2 Let’s break it down…  What are characters?  Characters are the people or animals in a story.  What are traits?  Traits are adjectives or describing words/phrases  So- character traits are adjectives describing a character in a story.

3  Realizing the young girl couldn’t swim, the onlooker dove into the cold, dark water to save her.  A good character trait to describe this person would be brave. Do you see why?

4  Every time Chris got new toys, he would take them apart to see how they worked.  How would you describe Chris?  Curious would be a great trait!

5  Seeing people were making fun of his friend, Derek stood up for him.  What is a good trait to describe Derek?  Derek is thoughtful, brave, and caring.

6  Larry sat all day in front of the TV and never even got dressed.  What is a good trait for Larry?  He is lazy Larry!

7  Annette opened the door for a senior citizen at the bank when she saw him struggling.  What trait describes Annette?  Generous, helpful, kind are all great traits!

8  What are character traits?  Character traits are adjectives that describe a character!  Now it’s your turn! Pick one character in your SSR book and choose one character trait for that character. Record it on a post-it to share tomorrow!
