Spanish spelling bee 10 steps to getting started at your school! By Sirlene Capers

Step 1 Prepare your Spelling bee package, include: A registration form for basic student information A list of words from the Annual Spanish language fair Rules and procedures that are the same as the National Spanish Spelling Bee

Step 2 Talk to your principal with a date in mind. Be ready to sell the idea by discussing all of the benefits of the event.

Step 3 Finalize a date on your calendar for the event. Announce it to your students with an emphasis on fun, prizes, and great learning opportunities. Some students are motivated by recognition and honors for their resume. Extra points may encourage students to sign up.

Step 4- Start practicing Devote some class time to practice Give word lists to be written as homework as a study aid Add spelling to your weekly quizzes to reward students who study!

Step 5 Step 5 Involve your community Letters to parents inviting them to the event. Alert local and school media to your event! Ask local business or community leaders that are native speakers to be judges.

Step 6- Get prizes Local Mexican restaurants might donate gift cards as prizes Service clubs may sponsor your event or award a scholarship to the winner. Choose trophies or medals for 1 st,2 nd and 3 rd place Certificates for all participants

Step 7 Get Decorations! Plan ahead and have decorations ready for your big day! Lead a student team to make everything look excellent!

Step 8 Hold your Spanish Spelling Bee! Call media and guest judges the week of to remind them. Have fun and have some winners!

Step 9 Issue a friendly challenge! Invite other schools to host one Have a interschools competition Have a regional competition
