3 Flipped Lesson Model for Elementary Students Step 1 Student will watch 4-5 minute video clip at home. Student will complete 1-2-3 ticket to be turned in for homework the next day. Step 2 Small group math instruction designed to provide guided practice under teacher supervision. Student will enter the classroom with prior knowledge about the subject matter. Step 3 Independent homework at home or formative assessment to evaluate comprehension and understanding.

4 Why a flipped lesson format? A flipped classroom flips, or reverses, traditional teaching methods. Traditionally, the teacher talks about a topic at school and assigns homework that reinforces that day's material. In a flipped classroom, the instruction is delivered online, outside of class. At the heart of the flipped lesson model is the desire to have classrooms be more active and engaging, and to give teachers more time to interact directly with students in small group or individual settings. At Tolbert, our plan is to utilize this model of teaching when delivering math concepts that are new to students or that require in-depth instruction in the classroom. We may use the video lessons at the beginning, middle or end of the lesson depending on the subject matter.
