A treatment method that involves using music to enhance health. Although Music Therapy is often used to promote mental and emotional health, it may also help improve quality of life for people coping with physical health conditions

The origin of music itself is unknown. The use of music in healing ceremonies is an ancient practice. Among primitive people, illness was viewed as originating from magico- relgioius forces, or form the breaking of taboos. Thus, music in combination with dances or words, along with songs, and the music producing instruments were considered to be efficacious in exorcising disease or healing wounds. Music in this case was believed to have divine significance, which was very important for restoring harmony and health.

The end of 18 th century, scientists began to investigate the effects of music on human body. It was during this time that the effect of music on function such as cardiac output, respiratory rate, pulse rate, circulation, general vibratory effects on the body was initiated.

The end of the 19 th century, researchers started to study the effect of music. Researchers also began looking for relationships between music and physiological or psychological responses.

With all the benefits that music can carry, music therapy is growing in popularity. Many hospitals are using music therapies for pain management and other uses. Music therapy helps with several other issues as well, including stress.

A person can achieve benefits from music, such as: Lowering blood pressure, ease muscle tension Music can be used in daily life for relaxation, to gain energy when feeling drained Music therapy can have profound physical effects, its an important tool in staying (or becoming) healthy
