Population change has been continuous and continues to be uneven throughout the world. However trends (patterns) have been identified between countries at different stages of development. A demographic transition refers to the change of an areas population between different stages of development (also page 183) Geographers have drawn up a SIMPLIFIED model to show how these changes take place – The Demographic Transition Model
