Rational Numbers Decimals

Do Now:  Tell me what each means  Sum  Difference  Product  Quotient

S.W.B.A.T  Identify the different components of the number system  Rational numbers  Irrational numbers  Integers  Whole numbers  Natural numbers

What is a rational number?  A rational number is any number that can be written in fraction form,, where a and b are integers and b ≠ 0  For Example:  -4  5 .25  1.5 .8888 Any decimal that is terminating or repeating How can these numbers be written as fractions and decimals?

What is an integer? An integer is a whole number and its opposite For example: -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 No fractions and no decimals

What is an Irrational number  An Irrational Number is any number that cannot be written in fraction form,, where a and b are integers and b ≠ 0

What is a whole number?  Whole numbers are simply the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on  Counting numbers are whole numbers except without zero, because you cant count zero  There are no negatives, no fractions and no decimals

What is a Natural Number  A Natural Number is simply a whole number, but we do not include zero  For example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on  No zero, negatives, fractions or decimals

Homework  Fill out the numbers system chart using your notes from class  I hope you took GREAT notes =)  We will go over the chart again tomorrow and I will add in some more examples for you  When making the chart be sure to have it colorful, so it will stand out in your notebook
