Organization does not help in completing your homework. 4. It is important to set up a “study zone” and do your homework at the same place, at the same time. 5. Studying while on Facebook will help you complete your homework faster and more carefully.

4 A GENDA Record homework in your agenda Make sure to bring home ALL THE BOOKS and MATERIALS that you will need to study. Make sure you know the due dates for all homework and projects.

7 T HIS M EANS … You should try to study at the same time and same place every day. You should study at a desk or a table. There should be nothing on your desk or table except what you need for the task you’re on Make sure there is proper lighting.

8 W HAT SHOULD Y OU T RY TO A VOID W HEN D OING Y OUR H OMEWORK ?

9 T HINGS TO A VOID BEFORE STARTING … Avoid distractions such as television, radio, computer, video games. Avoid going on Facebook, Twitter or other social Networks. Avoid listening to music that will make you want to get up and dance.

14 M ANAGE Y OUR T IME Don’t try to do all your studying the night before your test or project! Do your project in smaller parts. Avoid studying for too long at once because your brain cannot hold all the information at once Take breaks when needed

17 D O NOT PROCRASTINATE ! Find out what you need to get started on your homework and start right away! Do not keep putting it off.

19 B EFORE C LASS ! Look at your schedule to see what classes you will have. Put your homework assignment in your knapsack the night before. Have your homework assignment out on your desk – ready to turn in.

20 D URING CLASS Focus on the subject being taught Take notes on the main points Write down all your homework and due dates in your agenda Pay attention Relate it to what you already know Listen for these essential phrases from the teacher: “This is important…” “You must know this…”

21 H OW TO L ISTEN B ETTER ! Form a good habit of listening regularly Concentrate on what is going on in class – do not daydream! You cannot listen if you are talking!

With you there may be nothing wrong, But here’s my trouble all along. I do the thing that don’t amount To very much with no account. It isn’t that I’m indolent Or dodging duties quite intent. I work as hard as anyone And yet I get so little done. I nibble this, I nibble that But never finish what I’m at.

If I could just get organized I oftentimes may realize Not all that matters is the man. The man must also have a plan! I’d do so much you’d be surprised If I could just get organized.

32 C LASS N OTES AND O RGANIZATION Write down the proper date and title Copy class notes in appropriate notebook to help with organization and to decrease frustration Have a binder for each subject and put all necessary work and handouts in there. Use dividers Have a notebook for each class

33 O RGANIZE WITH COLOUR Use a colour code system Colour coding is helpful for organizing class subjects and for studying for a test Ways to colour code include: Highlighters Sticky notes Pens Folders

34 T AKE C ARE OF Y OURSELF Eat healthy Exercise daily Stretch frequently Sleep at least 8- 10 hours a day

35 C ASE S TUDY #1 Sarah is 10 years old. She tries to do her homework in front of the T.V., or while chatting with her friends on Facebook. Sarah eventually becomes very frustrated with her home and gives up. What advice can we give Sarah to help her with her homework?

He tells his teacher that he completed it, but his teacher tells him that she needs to see it in order for it to be marked correctly. 41 M ORE T IPS … READ the directions! Make sure you understand what the question is asking Plan how you will answer Answer using specific details Check off each part as you do it Don’t leave any questions unanswered Don’t guess blindly, but if you don’t have the time, then GUESS!

42 R EVIEW O VER Y OUR T EST Look over your test. Sometimes the answers are in the test itself! Keep an eye on the clock to know how much time you have left.
